Vacation and traveling is – unfortunately – a rare thing to come by these days, months, years. And I am not happy about it. We had to cancel our planned vacation to the Italian lakes in June and tried to vacation at home which was semi-successful. It is just not the same being at home during your time off. For September we had originally planned a week in the sun – some island or a city trip. But we decided that flying somewhere last minute (we only were able to commit a week prior to the dates) and or a city trip would be too expensive and too stressful. So again we looked at the Baltic. And we were almost going to our trusted cabin again but a) more expensive and b) I wanted to go to a new place. We ended up spending a few days at the Baltic Sea near Kołobrzeg.

I can’t share many exciting travel bits with you. The husband got sick Friday at 6pm when work was closing down. So the weekend he tried to get better. No golfing as we had planned. But we went to vote on Sunday of course. Monday around noon ok 2pm we jumped into the car for the 3 hour drive.

We arrived at the apartment around 6pm while a storm was hitting the coast and strong winds. Once we entered the apartment we were greeted with this view:

We quickly checked how the apartment was set up and then we went grocery shopping. After we brought our items back home we went to a new by restaurant for dinner. After we quickly went home as the husband was still sick. Some relaxing and watching the storm waves crash and then off to bed.

The next morning I took a short stroll along the beach and explored a bit before getting some bakery items for breakfast. As the husband slept in I read my book and chilled and admired the view.

Stroll through town with capturing a few of the older houses.

Later that day we went for a small stroll along the beach and stopped at a place for some snack. I had a local soup “Zurek” which was great and the husband had a waffle. Back home for some chilling at our roof top terrace with a bit of sun and sea gull observing.

We headed out to dinner with a great sunset:

And wonderful but a bit too much to eat.

On Wednesday we headed out to Kołobrzeg. A smaller town 13km away. Everyone in my family had mentioned how beautiful it was. Well, to make it short. Utter disappointment. Ugly, touristy and nothings special. By then I also felt a bit under the weather so we didn’t even climb up the lighthouse as the 100 steps where to strenuous. Sigh. We did have a wonderful breakfast sandwich and a stroll around though.

The cathedral I wanted to see and was my only to-do item was busy with mass so I wasn’t able to enter. Anyhow I feared I missed out and didn’t get to see it all but I am totally content I never have to return. When I asked my family what they all liked so much about the town everyone mentioned the town was ugly and not so great but the beaches were nice. WTH. I need to questions their judgment in the future. The beaches were nice but ours were even better. So yeah. Win.

On our way back we decided to cook pasta at the apartment and not go out for dinner as we were both spent and also had to fix some car issues on the way back. We ended the day with reading.

On Thursday morning I felt better and decided to go an a longer walk along the beach. There was an estuary 3 km away and that was my goal. I leisurely walked up there half-heartedly look for ambers but got side tracked by the many feathers so I started collecting those. I also wondered if you could sell these feathers as art supplies online. Anyway just when I reached the estuary it started to rain. I was pretty quickly soaked so I walked home quickly and took a shower the minute I got home to get warm. Luckily I had bought breakfast before and scored it in the car that walked parked outside the apartment.

Our plan was to take a walk on the beach but the husband still didnt feel great and we had rain storms throughout the day. So we spend it on the couch reading and watching the ocean.

Days at the Baltic reading

I went up to the roof top for a bit but then another storm came mere minutes after I sat down. I watched it as long as I could before getting wet again.

More reading and a bit of crafting and then a ray of sun came through the blinds. And I was able to watch a wonderful sunset.

For dinner we went to a restaurant we had previously visited. It was good and maybe my favorite dinner of them all. Then we just went back and I quickly went to bed as I felt cold and tired.

The next morning I woke up sick unfortunately. I had fought it off for a week. Sigh. We had to check out by 11am and had planned to go have breakfast at the restaurant on the sea bridge. On our way there I finally found some post cards and when we arrived we luckily found a table. I had some granola and hot apple pie with ice cream while the husband had the best pancakes ever. We had planned to walk a bit through town before heading home but we were both sick and decided to head home at 1pm. We arrived at 6pm and the husband immediately did laundry while I just relaxed.

The last two days of our vacation were spent getting well again. Sleeping, eating, reading, blog post writing and lots of tea drinking and inhaling.

It was a good reset week and it was relaxing. One of those days I have a vacation with lots of exploring but apparently this is not the time.

Do you enjoy activity vacations or relaxing vacations? Ever been to the Baltic Sea? Would you like to stay in this apartment with that vie of the Sea? What is your dream place to go next?
