This year I have been really hesitant to buy things since it’s not been too bright when looking at my financials. And I had month were I really haven’t bought much. However now that I am working again and make some income I bought a few things for myself and we also invested in some things for the apartment. And since it’s not an extensive list I decided to share my purchases so far in 2024. Not included are books and clothes.

1. Floppy Sunhat

Purchase reason: Our Date Day in June at the race tracks
Price: 11,90€
Current thoughts: Its a nice hat. Unfortunately not as white as the picture suggests and the ribbon is black (and already loose). But I’ve worn it on the terrace already and think it’s a nice purchase for this price. I can fix the ribbon and I may dye the hat white when I am sick of the natural color.
Rating: 4/5 ★

2. Outdoor Lounge

Purchase reason: We needed a lounge to sit and to host guests
Price: ca. 1.300 €
Current thoughts: Best price for this kind of design. I have a few issues with the loung though… the cushions are moving around which bothers me. The frame is not straight and when pushing the modules together you can see it. Do not like. The cushions have already lost some color. Which is fine as they only get light but for this price it adds up. But everything else would have been triple the price and I am not paying that.
Rating: 3/5 ★

3. Coverup for Outdoor Lounge

Purchase reason: Needed a rain cover for the outdoor lounge
Price: 79,80 €
Current thoughts: Very well spend money. Custom made to fit our lounge. The option from the shop we bought the lounge from had it for 150€ and it didn’t fit as we included one chair in the lounge that could also be separate. It’s well made, has velcro ties for the legs. I would rebuy. Maybe best money spend this year.
Rating: 5/5 ★

4. Outdoor carpets

Purchase reason: wanted some coziness for the lounge area
Price: 99,99 € & 36,99 €
Current thoughts: It looks good. It is not yet free of crinkles due to transport and not sure if it will. It keeps rain moisture but once the sun hits it, it dries quickly. However I am not totally convinced it’s a necessary product. I could do without BUT it does look more cozy and stylish this way.
Rating: 4/5 ★

5. Magnetic Picture Frames

Purchase reason: For my picture wall the first set to get started
Price: 9,59 € & 11,99 €
Current thoughts: Haven’t hung it yet but previously bought this system for gifts and it is great.
Rating: 4/5 ★

6. Silicon Toilet Brush

Purchase reason: Ours broke and needed replacement.
Price: 18,99€
Current thoughts: Like the silicon fringes, more hygienic and easier to clean. Much better product than the previous name brand. The handle could be a bit longer.
Rating: 4/5 ★

7. Wrist Bands for Apple Watch

Purchase reason: Just because. Wanted to have some new color options.
Price: 16,99€
Current thoughts: It’s an ok product. Unfortunately the clasp is not where it is supposed to be because my arms are not thin. But for 2,85€ a piece there isn’t much to complain.
Rating: 4/5 ★

8. Key Garage

Purchase reason: Wanted to be able to store my house key somewhere save so I can go swimming in my lunch break on my own.
Price: 27,95€
Current thoughts: Wasn’t able to try it yet because it’s been cold and rainy for the last two weeks.
Rating: 5/5 ★

9. Mint plant & sorrel plant

Purchase reason: My mint plants looked sad and I wasn’t sure they will grow. And I need mint for tea. The sorrel jumped in my cart because why not.
Price: 2,99€ + 2,49€
Current thoughts: Best return on investment. Just harvested mint for the third time. Never had so much mint. Good purchase. My sorrel provides me constantly with leaves I add to salads, cream cheese and soups. I hope it will survive winter
Rating: 5/5 ★

What has been a purchase in 2024 that brings you joy? What is the last plant you bought? Anything that you wished you didn’t purchase? If you could pick one thing from my list, what would you take?

Herbs are always a great investment I think. I currently have one of those hydroponic basil bushes in a jar on my dining room table and so far it’s lasted three weeks and is still going strong which is a lot better than buying a bunch which lasts less than a week in the fridge.

Three weeks is amazing. My potted basil rarely makes it this far… but because I eat so much or forget to water. Whatever comes first. The one I have now I grew from seeds so it takes a while. But yes, potted is much better than pre-harvested that rarely lasts long or is way too much for what you need.

All of your items sound great for enjoying summer! I bought my tricycle, and I love it. That was an excellent purchase for me! One I regret? I ordered some washi tape that looked really cute. But it arrived today, and it’s NOT cute at all. It looked much better in the photo.

So happy to hear your tricycle is bringing you so much joy. And sorry the washing tape was a flop

Ohh, I need that key garage so I can tell my cat sitter to just put the house key in there so I don’t pay hundreds of dollars next time to pay for a locksmith. So smart!

Love that you invested in things for your patio… because you have such a nice patio and you want to be able to enjoy it! (This stuff is expensive though, ugh.)

The key garage is a cool investment. It’s what realtors often use with houses here.

One of the best things I’ve bought this year was my electric food/bread slicer. I don’t know why I waited so long. I use it all the time.

I love my key garage so much. I’ve seen it in Berlin for airbnbs and realtors too. Yes patio stuff is so expensive and ours is so huge.
That bread slicer really makes you happy. How wonderful.
