Let’s get crafty today. No, stay even if you believe you are not crafty. This Mini Orange Peel Wreath is a cute little thing everyone is able to do. Really! And best of all – making something beautiful out of “waste”.

The Recycle Quick Tip Series are easy and quick DIYs with leftover materials.

Material Needed for Orange Peel Wreath

A small little list is all that is needed

  • Orange (eat it, keep the peel) alternatively grapefruit, manderines, lemons all work
  • some wire – you could use the old binding of a college block or wire found in flower arrangements
  • a nice little ribbon – I used thread from clothes and gift tags
  • pliers – if your don’t have any you could probably use a fork or chopstick to bend the wire.

How to make the mini wreath

Alright, it isn’t much to tell how to do it but I try to break it down.

  1. Cut the wire.
Roughly bend it into the shape and size you want. If you want a perfect circle wrap it around glas. That is about the right size for these little wreaths.
  2. On one end make a little loop/eyelet. It should be closed completely.
Here you could use the chopstick if you don’t have the right kind of plier.
  3. Rip up the orange peel in smaller pieces. I’d say about the size between a cent and a dime should work.
  4. Start to string them on the wire.
I do them all in the same direction but you could face the two white sides together and string them like that as well. Make sure to pack them tight as they will dry up and shrivel a bit (see two bottom ones I made last year). It is much easier to string them when you just peeled the orange. When the peel starts to dry it is unnecessarily harder.
  5. Once your circle is strung you thread the wire end through the eyelet and wrap it around once and then cut the remaining wire off.
  6. Thread your ribbon through the eyelet, Make a knot at the desired length and you have done a little wreath.

I have gifted some to my parents last Christmas as they have mainly natural ornaments on the tree. They are a cute little eye catcher.

You could also use them as decoration for gifts. Or they can become a little something to hang on your neighbor’s door or mailboxes.

Have you ever crafted something with orange peels? Do you think this is a DIY you can pull off? Do you like oranges? Do you have a suggestion what else would work for this DIY?
