You guys… I was doing really really good in not spending much money this entire year. But then I started looking at all the Black Friday sales and once I started putting the first things in my cart I felt like I didn’t stop. Black Friday sucked me in this year…
I did shop things that were sitting on my wishlist for a while. Things I have been pondering since last year already and still wanted or needed. But I also bought things I am (not yet) having a need for. As potential gifts maybe. Last year I didn’t buy the Black Friday sales only to buy the things a few days later to a regular price. This year I decided to buy them and if I decide different later on I return. Is that sustainable. Absolutely not. But I did.
Following I am going to list all the things I did buy. Mainly as therapy for myself and to admit that this is too much. And to remind me next year to maybe not get so sucked in…
- Bathroom mirror – Needed | costs shared with husband | on sale 15%
- Batteries – Needed | on sale 38%
- Accounting software subscription – needed | on sale 50%
- Weights – kinda needed / on the wish list since last year | costs shared with husband | on sale
- Outdoor broom – kinda needed | on sale 32%
- Phone Wallet – present | on sale 60%
- Charging station option 1 – potential present | on sale 33%
- Charging station option 2 – potential present | on sale 20%
- Shower bombs – potential present | not on sale
- Ink Roller Pen – present | on sale 6%
- Pink ink – present | not on sale
- Fitness gadget – potential present | on sale 41%
- Hair vitamins – not needed right now, stocking up | for myself | on sale 33%
- Coffee – not needed, wanted (for myself) & potential present | not on sale
- Pen set (fountain pen & roller pen) – kinda needed (my roller pen doesn’t work anymore and after trying to revive it for multiple times I decided it is not worth the trouble and got this set) did I run out of pens to write with? No. | not on sale
- Winter Coats (10 different options, only keeping one hopefully) – needed | (not) on sale 0%-62%
- White Turtleneck – wanted for over a year | on sale 43%
Etui Dress – not needed | on sale 50% → returned as not fittingRed T-shirt – not needed | on sale 40% → returned as wrong size was delivered
Here you have it.There wasn’t really any impulse buy. All things have been on my wish list or on someone else’s. Maybe the pen set was somewhat of an impulse but everything else not. And since we are being transparent here… I just ordered some more clothes because I have it in my mind that I want/need a glittery pencil skirt for Christmas. Or at least a silvery sparkly top to go with my white pencil skirt. Sigh…
Did I go overboard? What is the best item on my list? Tell me what you bought? Do you only buy sales items or is it not relevant for you? Do you have lists and wait for Black Friday sales? Any impulse buy?

I really spent so much money Black Friday weekend on new outerwear, but I needed all of it. None of it was an impulse buy. It is hard when you rein yourself in all year, but you do need some things!
I agree. Some things are needed and why not get it all at one point and even on sale. Looking at it over the span of a year it is not that much but just this one weekend its a lot.
I didn’t buy anything. I looked at a new Garmin watch, but the model I wanted wasn’t on sale here, so I’ll wait a bit longer for that. I did go out and buy a pair of shorts at the shop last week because only one of my non-running shorts fits me at the moment. They weren’t on sale.
Gold stars for you. I want a new phone and Apple Watch since last year but didn’t get those either.
I would not mind getting pink ink as a present. It’s probably one of the things I would not buy myself but would still cherish if someone gave it to me. Since it was not on sale I guess Black Friday did not make a difference.
I ended up buying some pants for my son on sale – we still have to wait and see if they fit and if he likes them. One was 70% off and I just could not help myself. He does need new pants as mostly all of his current ones are getting too short.
I got myself a new pair of Vans high tops at the outlet mall (marked down (~40%). I was eyeing exactly that pair a while ago and they still make me very happy.
I wanted to have pink and teal ink but didn’t buy it for me but as a present. But I would be delighted to that too.
I usually shop when it is on sale but something’s never get marked down.
Honestly, this list doesn’t read too crazy to me, especially since there were a lot of presents on here! I’ve been buying like crazy (mostly presents but a few things for myself, sigh) and it happens! Sometimes, we just get sucked into the sales.
It felt a lot but maybe it’s just because writing it down. Or it was all within 48 hours. And a few things will be returned. And let’s be honest I would get the presents anyways o why not save some. What did you get for yourself?
I bought some face cream (30% off) and a gift for my brother (50% off) and for Black Friday that is it. I also bought some under eye patches (20% off) because they were on sale and Suzanne (Life of a Doctor’s Wife) made me want some. I could have gotten them for 100% off by asking for them as a gift, but then my family would have paid the higher price and I could NOT have that. I know, I’m a lot of work.
I totally understand that. I tend to rather buy something myself so other people don’t overpay.
I have been buying things like money flows out of the faucet. Mainly presents, but definitely some clothes and skincare for myself in there too.
November and December are rough months when it’s come to spending.
I’m kinda jealous since this Black Friday I spent exactly nothing… I want to see that turtleneck.
Well now I am jealous that you still have your money.
I have ordered another turtleneck that maybe almost exactly the same for less so once that his here I can decided. But if not I have a very good one already which may be part of my Christmas outfit.
Well, I wouldn’t say you went overboard given a lot of this was needed and also, on big discount. So I would say you did good. As for me? I didn’t buy a thing I had already told family members about stuff they could buy me for Christmas, so it seemed like tempting fate to then go buy stuff someone else might buy.
Tja k you. I tried to buy only things I needed. I ended up sending back all the winter coats as none was really great and it’s been too warm so I think I can make do with what I have for another year.
