With all the marketing mails in my inbox and the immense shopping ads and Black Friday sales flying around I sat down and really thought what I would like to have. Things I would ask for Christmas for. Because let’s be honest – I am so lucky and privilege that I really don’t need anything. I may want something sure. But even that is usually a hard thing to come up. However, I found a few things I want to put on my Christmas wishlist 2023.

Books.
Never not wanting books. I believe books are one of the best presents to get on Christmas. Here is a list of ones I really would love to unwrap:

  • Essbare Wildpflanzen – an encyclopedia of wild eatable plants. I currently use an app for identifying but. going into more complicated plants I want to have a more scientific approach. I know this would be a great book.
  • 50 Words of Snow – do I need to say more besides the title?
  • The Last Educate by Naomi Novik – two years ago I received the first book in the trilogy
  • The Foxglove King by Hanna Whitten – who wrote one of the best books I read in 2023.
  • Ist es nicht ein Wunder, dass es uns gibt? by Jostein Gaarder – the newest book of my all time favorite author.

My book wishlist is long though.

Booklover Sweater.
My dear book club friends have created some booklovers essentials and I am loving these long sleeves. Don’t they look so cozy? They have opened an Etsy shop.

Puzzle.
It is almost a tradition that my sister is gifting me a new puzzle every year that I will then do between Christmas and new years. And I am hoping very much that I will get a mother one. These colorful (puzzle one, puzzle, two) ones I spotted seem fun.

Kombucha Kit.
Kombucha Starter Kit – I love drinking Kombucha and wanting to make my own has been a long time on my wishlist. Maybe this year I am gifted with this kit and get started.

Glasses.
When we celebrated our Friendsgiving last year we ended up drinking a whiskey. And I also had some home made liquors but no shot glasses. These glasses match the whiskey glasses I have and I think I would like them very much.

Craft things.
I gave these colored pencils to my niece a few years back and ever since I can’t stop thinking about them. I mean look at these colors. Would be so nice. Do I need them, probably not. Do I want them. More than I care to admit.

Jeans Coat.
An essential that I do not own. Every spring I say I want a jeans jacket. Never really looking for it but always missing. Maybe this would be a great gift for me.

Growing Tea.
Something that Instagram keeps showing me and I am intrigued is this self growing tea. After you drink you can put in in the ground and it goes herbs. Does it work? I don’t know.

Now your turn: What is on your wish list for Santa? Is there a wish that is on the list for years and no-one gets it to you? Do you prefer giving presents or getting them? Do you give gifts you’d rather keep for yourself?

Those sweatshirts are so cute! I’ve already sent my husband my “list” and I suspect he’ll just buy directly from that. I have things I really want/need, so it’s easier to just send links but I don’t have to manage ordering etc. He always fits in a few surprises, but mostly I’d like to open the things I’ve requested on Christmas morning!

I love a good surprise. But it is also nice to get something that I want and need and not something I may not really have any use for. Luckily the husband always haas the best gifts for me. I am spoiled. I on the other hand am not very good at picking gifts if they can’t be handmade…

Love your book club friends’ offerings — so cute!

And that tea growing kit sounds really intriguing.

Yes they have some really cute things. Right, growing tea? What’s not to love.

I’ve started thinking about what I want to GIVE for Christmas, but I haven’t yet put any thought into what I would like to RECEIVE. That’s the hard part!

Agree it is hard to come up with things for one self. But I also have a hard time coming up with gift ideas…

So many wonderful items! For me, it is super narrow. All I want is gift cards for Airbnb.

I love a good Christmas wishlist! I have some things I’d like to receive this year, and I’ll be sharing what’s on my wishlist in December. But I’m now in the process of trying to find those last few Christmas gifts for people who aren’t necessarily hard to shop for, but I really want to give them thoughtful gifts so I’m spending a lot of time on Etsy and perusing gift lists!

I haven’t started on getting things for my loved ones. I have a really hard time getting presents. It’s very overwhelming for me. But I need to get this going.
Looking forward to seeing your list.

Ah, I love looking at other people’s wish lists. The long sleeves are so cozy and I love that you get a puzzle from your sister every year. What a cool tradition.

I haven’t written my wish list yet but will have to put one together – I know that some people always draw inspiration from it (and I love it when people take a hint from my wish list, as much as I like getting people something that they want).

For years I haven’t done a wishlist but it is fun to write one. I still very much love when I get surprised. And my sister always picks some crazy puzzles so am hoping again.

I keep having random gift ideas that I want pop into my head, but I don’t write them down… and I’m sure that when I DO sit down to try to write it, I won’t be able to think of any. My mom was asking for some ideas, so I should do this soon. And I really should be better about immediately jotting a note in my phone or something when little ideas pop into mind.

I was struggling with that too and never knew what to tell people until I wrote it down.

I like your list… very simple pleasures that you can still get for yourself. I don’t have anything that I want at the moment, but would ask for surprise me kind of gifts :)

Yes, I could get everything on my own but I won’t because I don’t really need them. So if I am not gifted one of these items I probably never have them.
Surprise me gifts are great too especially if you didn’t know you wanted them.

The growing tea sounds interesting! If you get it you’ll have to tell us all about it.
I also have a lot of books on my wishlist, and I’ve been thinking of getting a puzzle for the family to do this year! I would probably get one with a Christmas-y scene and do it before Christmas though.

Puzzles are great and you have time to chat while doing them.
I will let you know if I get the tea and how the growing turns out.
