I almost forgot to share a blog treasure today. But I remembered in time and you are in for a treat. I used to publish so many recipes here on the blog. Lately I have fallen a bit of the wagon with sharing my favorite dishes or my discoveries.
So in case you missed it 5 years ago I share one of my favorite soulfoods – Quarkkeulchen. It’s a real treat. It’s a full meal. And it’s topped with applesauce. Are you on board yet?

I remember I was always over the moon when my mom made them. Mainly from left overs. But there rarely were left overs for this dish.
You can make the dumpling dough from scratch – which I have never done. But it might be tough to get the raw dumpling dough in the US so this could be an option. Even if it means more work. I hope you give it a try.
Here is the recipe. So enjoy.
What is your childhood soul food? Is there assist very regional from where you come from that hardly anyone knows? Any leftover dish that is better than the original one? Have you have had Quark?

This looks delicious! I’ve never heard of it, but it sounds exactly like something I would like. I’ve never heard of Quark either. My childhood soul food was macaroni and cheese and ice cream. But we don’t have any regional, original dishes like yours.
I had hoped it is easier to come by quark now. Maybe some of the German expats can help out if there is a certain brand that is close to what we need here.
I had to look up Saxony- not too far from the capital and beautiful!! I used to have a n art book about Dresden, and sadly, how it was pretty much destroyed during the war. I have a hard time with destroying art/work that someone else created… Here in the US I feel people know Bayern and maybe Bremen, and Berlin of course but not much about the rest of Germany. Tony really wants to go for a thorough tour of Germany and I’d love that, too. I may have mentioned I have distant relatives on the boarder with Osterreich.
Comfort foods from childhood. Anything with potatoes! In any shape, or form. And, of course, soups/stews. Borscht, solyanka, dill pickle soup, a Central Asian dish – Beshbarmak – that was only made on rare occasions.
Of course, Russian dumplings- pelmenis.
