Last year I answered the first 10 of these questions for readers. It is always fun to talk about books and reading, right? So why not do another set.
1. I love this genre, but I didn’t love this book.

This would be The Twilight series by Stephany Meyer.
Don’t get me wrong I read it and in just a few days too but I have my issue with it as it is dripping with mormon believes and questionable gender roles.
2. I love this trope, but I didn’t like this book.

The Map of Salt and Stars by Zeyn Joukhadar
A girl trying to be a map maker in a world where girls are not allowed, traveling the world, having adventures.
But I couldn’t connect and something was off.
3. I love this author, but I didn’t love this book.

If you have stuck around for more than two minutes you probably know that Jostein Gaarder is my all-time favorite author. However is break through book Sophie’s World is the one I least enjoyed. I think I was too young when I read it. I bought it second hand a couple of years ago for a re-read.
4. I read this book and I have not recovered from it.

Dem Abgrund so nah by Jessica Koch.
This is a second in a trilogy. The first is about a teenage couple, the boy is a drug addict and kills himself. The author was his girlfriend. The second part sheds light on his trauma of child abuse. I am glad I only listened to it. I want to read the third book but I still need to recover from the second part.
If you can stomach this though I highly recommend the series. There is a movie out I haven’t watched.
5. I love this cover, but I didn’t like this book.

I have always wanted to read my Brilliant Friend and was so happy to find it on my last day before moving in the little free library that just popped up a few weeks prior. But I hated it and even Engies bookclub could not force me to picket up and try again.
One of the rare DNF’s for me.
6. I don’t love this cover, but I love this book.

This book was a freebie when I read it and then immediately bought the second. The
Have you read any of these books? I there a book you disagree on? Is there a trope you hate like no other? Is there a trope you’re instantly drawn to?

LOL, what a fun prompt. I LOVED My Brilliant Friend, and read the entire series. I wonder if I liked it so much because I saw the excellent series first? My daughter and I watched it several times, and we were between season 3 and season 4 (each season covers one book) when we had book club.
I wanted to love Pillars of the Earth, but agh, what a slog. Way too long.
Twilight…I mean, it was fine. My daughter LOVES that series, even though she knows it’s not great writing, which is fair, we all have those, right?
I know the brilliant friend is a favorite of yours. Glad I am not the only one not too convinced with Twilight.
Pillars of the earth is a tough one especially if not interested in this type of architecture. I devour everything about it and loved it so much.
The only one of these I’ve read is The Pillars of the Earth, but mine had a different cover. I hope you are having a nice weekend!
Thank you. I am actually sick so it was planned differently. Sigh.
There are so many different covers for that book. Back then I didn’t care much for the cover and got the cheapest one.
I was not a fan of My Brilliant Friend. More like, My Brilliant Snooze, amirite? (am i right?). I didn’t find either girl that compelling and their teenage angst was so boring. And I totally realize this is an international best-seller but it just really, really did not do it for me.
I never read Twilight but I did read the first Shades of Gray book, which was similar pop culture trash zeitgeist at the time I read it. It was ok, but I had zero desire to read the other two books.
YES, both girls were so annoying and mean. It didn’t do anything for me. So much awefulness. I don’t care if it’s a perfect description of life than – it was boring and horrible.
I never picked up shades of gray. S Zero interest. I think the husband watched the movies at some point out of boredom and to understand the hype.
I haven’t read any of these but watched the Twilight series. This is such an interesting topic for a blog post – might need to do one of my own!
For years I read and enjoyed almost all of Marian Keyes books and after reading “Again, Rachel” I haven’t read more of her books. Same with Liane Moriarty after reading “Apples never fall”. When a book is really drawn out and repetitive in parts it puts me off.
I have only watched the first of the Twilight series. It never appealed to me to watch the rest.
Some of the authors I loved backing the day have not aged well. And while I loved books then I probably wouldn’t today.
It it sad when a favorite author disappoints.
I loved The Pillars of the Earth! My copy is a battered paperback and I don’t love the cover either. Let’s see. I just posted about a book I didn’t like in a genre I love — Society of Lies (a thriller).
Fun prompt!
I need to catch up on all your posts. Ahhhh.
So happy you also loved the pillars of the earth
The only book on this list that I’ve read (well, it was a DNF) was My Brilliant Friend, and I concur on all of your opinions about it! I really didn’t like that book at all!
That book was just so bad. Sad. Violent. Triste. Boring.
